WHAT IS THE BOOK ABOUT ?πŸ“–

THE PALACE OF ILLUSION

A mythic tale which is unique, creative and an illuminating feminist work that breathed new life into female characters in a male-centered story. Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni’s The Palace of Illusions published in 2008 is a novel retelling of the ancient Hindu epic The Mahabharata from the perspective of Draupadi. The novel traces the princess Panchaali’s life.

HOW IS THE BOOK UNIQUE?πŸ’«

The opening chapters present Draupadi's obsession with her origin and introduces her rebellious character as well as her struggle for a female identity. In an instance, lack of self-identity was revealed when the tutor was teaching lessons on Kshatriya dharma to Dhri (brother of Panchaali) and Draupadi was discouraged from attending the classes which was meant only for man. She was given lessons in singing, dancing and playing music so, that she could get the attraction of her husband over the other wives. Though Draupadi was victimized in several instances she was determined to continue her lessons in some way or other.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“And so I refused to give up the lessons, no matter who disapproved.” (The Palace of Illusions, 24). She also expresses her dismayed thought of the tutor when he said about the '' women who are the path to ruin'' (The Palace of Illusions, 24), Draupadi says "I resented the tutor's declaration that women were the root of all the world's trouble" (The Palace of Illusions, 24). In her own house, Draupadi's voice of protest, willingness to learn Nyaya Shastra, taking part in armor activities and even her right to choose her better- half were strongly opposed. Despite facing the problems and hindrances in her life and being subjugated, Draupadi is able to stay bold in her decisions and her acts. It is evident when Draupadi takes a vow holding her long hair after vastraharan, “I will not comb it, until the day I bathe it in Kaurava blood.” (The Palace of Illusions, 194)

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT ?πŸ€”
πŸ“½️πŸ‘‰πŸ”₯Power of Self DefenseπŸ”₯πŸ‘ˆπŸ“½️
self defense

The women in The Mahabharata have been treated as slaves, property, chattel and commodities used for the pleasure of men. The key characteristics of women are seen as submission, suppression, obedience and silence. They are tools of male ambition. Woman like Draupadi stand out opposing the injustice of the male world.

πŸ“½️πŸ‘‰#PLIGHT OF WOMENπŸ‘ˆπŸ“½️

Despite laws being in place, women continue to be subjected to violence, exploitation, harassment and victimized in this patriarchal society. There has not been much evolution from the age of the Mahabharata to present-day society. The plight of the women in the 21st century is not different from that of the women in ancient times though only some Panchaalis have overcome the victimization in present era. so, in order to overcome these discrimination and victimization, women must be aware about the laws for their welfare, they should be able to defense for their safety, learn to act independently and be a real fire which can be devoted as well as can play the role of destructor.

πŸ“½️πŸ‘‰ “Wait for a man to avenge your honor, and you’ll wait forever.” πŸ‘ˆπŸ“½️                                          ― Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni, The Palace of Illusions

MADURAI TO MUNNAR ROADS

we started our journey 5 AM in our car from Madurai and anyone who has traveled on Indian highways would know how much an early morning departure contributes in making a long drive a stress-free one. Taking a car or bike and riding towards Munnar is a whole lot of thrilling experience compared to other modes of transportation. If you are a person who loves to ride, picking a bike lets you enjoy the charm of nature. Before starting the trip, do make sure that you get proper feedback on the road and climatic conditions. For holidaymakers, an on-road travelling to Munnar from Madurai guarantees breathtaking views and a pleasant climate. Then slowly sun welcomed us giving his bright and soothing sun rays. After that by 9 AM , we enjoyed our breakfast (which we packed from home) with the nature. There are many highway hotels available ( TEMPLE CITY ) as well as there are many refreshment places along the way  (* The tea breaks are a necessity not only for refreshment but to taste the best of tea in India.*)

We again resumed our journey , after driving on nearly arrow straight highways, the sight of the twisty mountain roads with hardly any traffic increased our enthusiasm for driving even though it was little terrific. we enjoyed hearing music with the climate around us covering with mist and fog. By evening we arrived at our accommodations, a lovely resort . There are many comfortable resorts and hotels available from 5 star to 3 star, travelers can accommodate according to their budgets. ( HOTEL EMERALD INN , MUNNAR CASTLE , GREEN VIEW HOLIDAY INN , THE MOUNTCOURT ) Munnar is famous for its scenic beauty, tea plantations, and the most beautiful and unparalleled weather. The stay and travel to Munnar are all about relaxing and having fun. Must Visit Places in Munnar include Attukal Waterfalls, Eravikulam National Park, Mattupetty Dam, Chokramedu Peak, Echo Point, Kanan Devan Hills Plantation Tea Museum, Blossom Park, Kundala Lake, Pothamedu Peak Point, Top Station, Lockhart Gap, Meesapulimala, Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary, and Chinnakanal Waterfalls. Apart from the spectacular views and unusual places, Munnar is also well known for its sports and adventure activities like trekking, rappelling, hiking, boating, elephant riding, rock climbing, etc.

After a little fresh up we went to the flower exhibition in Munnar which was a delight to eye. Variety of flowers 🌷🌸🌹🌺🌻🌼🍁 were decorated and arranged with lightings. Two things which comes in our mind when we think of Munnar is : first being "cool climate and beautiful surrounding" next one being the "Tea estates..☕🌿". The second day started with the tea museum where we discovered the history of the tea plant and it's cultivation . Wherever you see there is GreeneryπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’š which makes one's mind , soul pure and fresh πŸ’«πŸ’₯.Then we went to boating🚣🚀🌊 which was yet another wonderful experience and the cherry on the cake was when we saw a baby elephant playing with water πŸ’¦πŸ˜, splashing and cleaning its body. Then we went to dams and saw many small rivers from mountainsπŸ—»

A minimum of three days is required if you are planning to go to Munnar. It can extend up to any number of days, depending upon your interest and budget. If you are going on- road by car, bike or bus, it takes about 3 to 4 hours or even 5 to 6 hours to reach Munnar.  A properly budgeted trip gets you three nights and two days at Munnar. An elongated trip to wander all through the terrains of Munnar to enjoy every bit and inch and having lots of fun with the adventure sports will take you 5 nights and 6 days. Munnar is a perfect destination and easily accessible from Madurai. At last our journey came to an end after three days of enjoyment and this was the best treat we gave ourselves in this busy world.

ELOPE FROM COMFORT ZONE

Being in the comfort zone is, well, comfortable. It is often pleasant and it is always easy, however, the comfort zone might also be hindering your growth and development and impacting your life in a negative way in the long term. It might be time to leave it, and here are six reasons why it's ruining your life.

 1. You will not discover your true passionπŸ‘Ž

If you stay in your comfort zone, you might get good at something, but will it be your true passion? More often than not, it won't be. A true passion often requires you to take a risk and gamble on the thing that matters. But your comfort zone will often prevent you from even finding out what that thing actually is.
You might spend a long time without a meaning or a purpose, just focusing on comfort, and many people find that, in the end, that's not enough to be happy and fulfilled.

2. It hinders your career πŸ’’

The second reason is that the comfort zone is destroying your growth. Perhaps you have not taken promotions or have not been offered one. Maybe you have been staying in the same place and in the same position, even if you know you could do better. The comfort zone makes you afraid of moving forward and growing, and you will usually choose to stay put.

 3. It reduces your creativity 😐

The more a habit becomes ingrained, the more difficult it is to change it. If you spend a lot of time doing the same work time and again, it can hinder your creative habits, because non-creative work becomes a habit.

 4. It undermines your confidence πŸ˜“

When you stop facing challenges, you start losing confidence in your own abilities. You might feel that even if new opportunities appear, you are not capable of taking them on.

 5. It gets you a reputation ⛔

Whether we like it or not, other people learn to view us in a certain way. The reputation we build might influence how we are perceived and the opportunities others bring our way. When you are in your comfort zone all the time, others learn to view it as someone who doesn't take risks and might not think of you when they consider a new project.

 6. It makes you tune out of your life 🚫

The more you stay in your comfortable life, the less present, aware, and engaged you are likely to be. Things fall into a comfortable routine and, little by little, time begins to speed away and, before you know it, too much has passed for your liking.

The comfort zone can ruin your life in different ways. The good news is that now that you are more aware, you can take steps to challenge yourself and grow continuously. Learn new things and seek out new experiences.

ESCAPE EXPECTATION

You only get one life to live. This seems obvious, but at the same time, we often let this fact slip our minds, especially when we allow other people to dictate how we live it.

It's important that you understand what you truly want in life. It's not a simple process. Since we are little, we are conditioned to think and behave in specific ways, as well as to desire certain things. There are things that are socially acceptable to desire: career success (in certain fields), objects, a lifestyle, and so on. Others are not so acceptable, and we might need time to recognize what we want if it doesn't align with our social conditioning.

For example, some professions might be considered more prestigious and ambitious than others. If you want to be an artist or a teacher or do manual labor, there can be a lot of pressure to go elsewhere. You need to explore even the options that are not as allowed socially.

You get to live life on your own terms. But you need to decide to do this.

You can't get back the time you spend following other people's ideas, values, and expectations. The pay-off for that is also not as good as it seems. All you will get is the approval of some people and the indifference of others. Is that worth sacrificing your true desires, needs, and wishes?

If you truly want something, achieving it will give your life meaning and help you feel fulfilled. Following the expectations, other people and society impose is more likely to leave you feeling empty and full of regrets over the choices you have made.

You can always make changes in your life.

However, there is no way to get back the time you invest into things that don't truly matter to you. Consider what you truly want to have in your life right now.

It's not always easy to distinguish what you actually want from what you believe you should want. Ask yourself: would you still pursue this goal if nobody else in your life expects you to? Are you eager to give it up or be done with it? Are you enjoying the process as much as the goal? Are you satisfied with how you spend your time?

DO WHAT YOU THINK IS RIGHT, NOT WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THINK IS RIGHT. IN THE END, IT'S YOU WHO GOES THROUGH IT, NOT THEM.

REMEMBER THAT YOUR LIFE IS YOURS.
MAKE YOUR OWN CHOICES TO EXPERIENCE TRUE HAPPINESS.πŸ’«πŸ˜‡

GO WITH THE FLOW LIKE WATER..!

"Go with the flow. Force nothing. Let it happen.. trusting that whichever way it goes. It's for the best."

Most of the time, we want everything to always go as planned: from the early morning routine, the food we eat, to the time spent with family, and so on. So much that if anything alters it, we tend to feel frustrated and out of control.

Maybe you are at this point right now; how about just allowing yourself to go with the flow?

Don't even think that it's a sign of weakness or incompetence. No, it's not!

It's you telling yourself, okay, this didn't go as planned. Can I give it another shot now or later? You could even put a date to it to ensure that you do not forget.

Maybe you've structured your day, and while going to bed, you envisioned yourself smashing all your goals. All of a sudden, you wake up to a leaky faucet. And now you've got water flowing freely in all the wrong places around your home. No doubt, it may be challenging to deal with, but you can still decide to go with the flow.

Accepting the situation here would probably mean that you'll be late for work or even need to take the day off. Whatever the case may be, refuse to get so angry at everything and everyone else to the point that a productive day eludes you entirely.

"If you can't control the current of the river, then don't fight it. Just go with the flow."

Remember that time never waits, and you do not want to invest so much of your time and energy into stress and anger since it can never help you solve the problem at hand.

Before allowing the rush of negative thoughts and emotions, you'll need to 'first accept that the situation is out of your control. Next, consider fixing the problem by inviting a professional plumber to inspect and repair your leaky faucet. Then call in a professional cleaner, if you must, to restore your home to normal.

With these arrangements in place, you'll have solved the issue at hand and still have more hours left for some productive work or any new activity you'd like to carry on.

Forget about the perfect lifestyle that's 'most often portrayed on social media. The truth is, you only get to see what they want you to see. Focus on yourself instead, and do your best to maintain a happy and exciting life that you can always be proud of.

Remember that if the situation is out of your control, no matter what it is, you only need to go with the flow to restore your happiness and peace of mind.

It Pays To Go With The Flow!🌊

ARE YOU GRATEFUL WITH WHAT YOU HAVE...?

 A beautiful story..!

A young laborer came to a restaurant one evening to have a meal. The owner engaged him in a conversation and found out that he was saving to bring his family to the city so they could get a chance at a better life. He had an aged mother, a wife, and two young sons who he hoped to give a good education so they could have a more decent life. He had just arrived in the city and found some menial work at a scrap metal site down the road. It was going to be his only meal of the day and he could only spend a few cents.

The owner was impressed with his hard work and diligence, and his family values. He encouraged the laborer and wrapped his meal for him. He took his order personally and told him that it would cost him 50 cents.

Several years went by and the laborer stopped at the restaurant every evening to get his one meal of the day and chat with the restaurant owner who always encouraged him and asked about his aged mother, his wife, and young sons, and how his plans were going.

Finally, the laborer came by one evening with a happy smile on his face. He had bought a modest house in a good neighborhood with a good school for his boys and he had just sent for his family to join him. The restaurant owner was very happy for him and congratulated him. The laborer then told him that he was in a mood to celebrate and he would be spending an entire 5 dollars on his meal that evening. The restaurant owner told him it was well-deserved, wrapped up his meal and he went on his way home.

When the laborer got home and opened up his meal pack, he was shocked to see that it was the same type of food he had been having every day for the last 6 years. He was very disappointed because he had been looking forward to a feast to celebrate his big achievement. He certainly deserved something better after scrimping on his meals all those years. He was mad at the restaurant owner and felt robbed of his money and his celebration. He felt he had been cheated by his very good friend.

He immediately went back to the restaurant to make his complaint. The restaurant owner had already left and he met one of the staff with whom he was quite familiar.

"Say, John, I think you guys gave me the wrong meal pack today. You see, I got this same type of meal every day for 50 cents but today I am celebrating and decided to spend 5 whole dollars at your restaurant. But I was cheated and got just the same meal as every other day!"

"Well, sir, this is our most expensive meal and it costs 5 dollars!"

It suddenly dawned on the laborer that he had not been cheated at all by his friend. In fact, the restaurant owner had been giving him their best meal which cost 5 dollars for 50 cents for 6 years! He felt very ashamed of himself for thinking that his good friend had cheated him.

"It's all a misunderstanding then," he said and turned to leave quickly to hide the tears in his eyes.

"One minute, sir," said the staff. "My boss said you were going to come back and that I was to give you this bag."

When the laborer opened the bag, he found all the 50 cents he had ever spent at this restaurant. Unable to hold back the tear now, he sat down on a bench and wept quite unashamedly.

  •  He had judged too quickly
  •  He'd felt entitled and a little prideful because of his sense of arrival
  •  He had repaid kindness with suspicion and anger
  •  He had failed to give proper thanks where it was due...

WHY?

Because he had been unable to see or recognize the hand that was behind the scene helping him all this time!

Friends, sometimes because we don't yet have the car and the house and the fine things, we fail to recognize the simple things that God gives us daily. And so we are ungrateful and unappreciative and even a little entitled when we go to Him to complain about the things we don't have. We are prideful of our little achievements when we have a few fine things or feel like we have arrived.

But does God condemn us? Is He mad at us? Does He take back everything because of our foolishness?

NO...

As the restaurant owner, even though He gives us His best and always looks out for us to encourage us, He is there to pick us up when we stumble or fall. Even when we don't see or appreciate His goodness and kindness to us, He never stops being gracious and kind to us or tires of hearing our complaining and griping. In fact, He opens His storehouse and gives us even more than we deserve when we are at our lowest.

Today, this very moment, stop and consider God's goodness, and then you might want to say a prayer like this:

"GOD, I DON'T SEE YOUR HAND BEHIND THE SCENES BUT SINCE I'M STILL ALIVE I KNOW YOU ARE THERE HOLDING ME UP AND HELPING ME. AND I JUST WANT TO TELL YOU THANK YOU!"

REINVENTING ONESELF IN PANDEMIC TIMES

A PERSONAL ACCOUNT OF MY LIFEπŸ˜‡

First of all, I give my hearty condolence to each and every person who lost their kith and kin due to Covid.

In this difficult time, I pray almighty to give support and make us survive this pandemic time.

Even though there have been a lot of negative incidents that took place in this period, on the other hand we see some positive impacts on society as well as in the life of people. We got to see the dwindling of air pollution, bringing back the nostalgic memories of oneself and connecting back to life. One such positive impact that made me, “me” happened during this pandemic time.

“To fall in love with oneself is the first secret to happiness” - Robert Morley

This very quote could explain my experience during this pandemic. As busy people, we often forget to love ourselves and instead search and long for it from outside. But we are the best partners for ourselves and I realized this during this pandemic.

Not only that I started to make myself happy by doing what makes me happy such as cooking delicious food and eating it (even though some were just experiments as it has both failures as well as success), bringing back the nostalgic memories of childhood and got hold of my old friends to have a lovely conversation filled with laughter and happiness.

One of the greatest achievements, I did during this pandemic was putting together all my interest in teaching and starting my own tutorial (obviously online). Yeah! I am a teacher. I got this title “ ΰ€œी “at a very young age and I am really happy for myself that if I am able to do this at this age then I will be able to achieve many more in my coming years…

I started thinking about my future and used this precious time to design and carve my dream life. So, I found the deep passion within me and reinvented myself that I was willing to serve this country by giving the powerful weapon to everyone “education”.

So, I collected all the information regarding my dream project and sow the seeds for harvest...

Finally, I conclude by saying that

“We grow through what we go through”

Enjoy your life and there is a purpose for our life in this world. so, use it to the apex and reinvent yourself.

You can do this!

TIME THE ULTIMATE

 TIME WAITS FOR NO ONE

TIME REVEALS THE TRUTH AND NONE CAN ESCAPE ON ITS HOLD..!πŸ’’

πŸ‘‰Time acts as both a teacher and a healer. Time teaches us the value of life and makes us feel happy to be alive.  A difficult or painful situation will seem less bad as time passes.

πŸ‘‰Time is the one thing that you can never get back. Once time has gone, it will never return.

πŸ‘‰Nobody knows how much time they have. People can die at any age and for any reason.

πŸ‘‰Mastering our available time is essential. Managing it poorly or well has a huge impact on life.

πŸ‘‰Everyone has the same 24 hours a day, so no one can complain about not having time for the things they want to do.
